City by the Bay
We took a trip to the bay to visit The Hundreds SF to install the new PhotoBooth. We also took this opportunity to meet up with Benny Gold. While we have been big fans of his work and followed his brand we had never met up with him. Benny is a stand up guy, and a great designer. We hope to get the opportunity to do something with Benny down the road.

Yesterday we received a copy of the first issue of Axel Speed magazine published by Daytona in Japan. Axel Speed is the baby of our friend Kenta Ogawara. Kenta has been talking about this magazine since we first met him a few years back, the idea sounded amazing (at least for me). Cars, motorcycles, fashion, skateboarding and interesting people, basically a lifestyle magazine of things I like. I have to say, this magazine did not disappoint , granted I am not able to read it as it is all in Japanese, but the pictures, design, and stories seem spot on. I don’t have to read Japanese to recognize cool clothing when I see it, along with great photography. Congrats Kenta, it is everything I thought it would be and more.
Some great clothing, now if only it was readily available in the US at a price I could afford.
いくつかの素晴らしい服を、今の場合だけ容易に、米国で私は余裕がある価格で提供された。
Oh, and a little piece on me. Kenta asked me if I would do an interview for him a while back for Daytona or Block magazine, shortly after the interview the magazine was killed. Well, a year later here it is. I have no idea what it says, but the pictures are great, and my daughter was super stoked to see herself in a magazine. I will let her take the magazine in for show-n-tell, and let her come up with whatever story she wants as to what it says. Kids have a great imagination. Thank you again Kenta, and congratulations on the magazine.

It’s a little known fact that 530medialab initially started by doing print design. In fact all 3 founding partners formally were Art Directors for many of your favorite (or not so favorite) Car and Motorcycle magazines. We have always been fans of magazines and have taken the same approach from Print design into Web design, hence why our stuff might not look like everyone else on the world wide interweb.
We have been talking to The Hundreds about a magazine since we started working with them 4 years ago, so this project has been a long time coming. This project was truly a lot of fun to work on with Ben and Bobby and the rest of the crew at TH. If nothing else, it gave us a reason to bust out all of our magazines from the 90’s to reminisce over.
With this, we present The Hundreds magazine, Volume 1, Issue 1, available now at The Hundreds web store:

…or Montreal.
Tuesday brought a visit from Jeremy Wirth and his gf Jess. We have been talking to Jeremy for a while, he an amazing Art Director and recently worked with us on a print piece you will see very soon. Jeremy also co-runs a brand called Rated Rookies who we will be doing a collaboration with soon.
In typical 530 style we treated our guests to a fine lunch at 5 Cinco de Mayo. To our knowledge they don’t have good Mexican food in Montreal, so we needed to share with our new friends. While most follow our lead with Carne Asada tacos, or the Polla a la Plancha a few decide to stray onto the inside pages of the menu. Jess moved on this dish that we have nick named the “Sal”, as the only other person we have seen get this was Sal Barbier. Jess opted to not cover the eyes with tortilla chips like Sal, but she did do damage on this fish.
Jeremy and Jess finished their visit with us, then headed to Proper and the Long Beach Aquarium to pet sharks.
Enjoyed our visit with you guys, looking forward to seeing you in March?

Based on recent blog postings, you would think The Hundreds was our only client, not the case. Recently we started became the digital AOR for Globe, including Globe Surf, and Globe Skate, along with Dwindle, Speed Demons, Enjoi, Almost, Darkstar, Blind, and Tensor. Right now we are in the process of getting the hosting for all of the sites under control with our friends at (mt) Media Temple. Once the server transition is final and we have everything running, we will start the development of many new sites. Stay tuned for more.

When I was a kid I dreamed of having a PK Ripper. We were luck enough to get one of the 300 26′ PK Rippers that The Hundreds did with SE Bikes and where is it going to go? On a wall. I spent all that time wishing for a bike, finally get it and it’s going to hang on the wall. The irony here is that we had to put the bike together, why is that ironic? We did not have any tools with the exception of a pocket knife, some sort of screw driver handle but with no attachments, and a ruler. And yes even with it going on to a wall, we still had to take the reflectors off, old habits are hard to break.

Thankfully 530 mascot Stitch was there to supervise the process of building the bike, or perhaps she was just looking for snacks?
